Becca Reynolds started the MyMarketBasket hashtag on Instagram for her finds at the Boise Farmers' Market.

#MyMarketBasket photography series began one spring day three years ago at the Boise Farmers Market. As I sat down to drink a cup of Neckar coffee I was taken by the simple beauty of my market basket. The collection of vibrant, locally grown colors set against a black backdrop of asphalt and canvas captured my full attention. I couldn’t help but take a picture—and the following Saturday another one. It soon became a pleasant weekly obsession.

At the time I was already using social media to promote the Boise Farmers Market and a handful of our Valley’s small organic farms—not in a formal capacity, simply as an act of appreciation. I hoped the content I shared would inspire others to support our local food economy. In this way I was primed to see my basket of groceries as something more than a week’s worth of food.

While my original intention was to inspire others, over time I realized taking these pictures was beginning to shift something within me. They became a ritual: a moment to pause, give thanks, express gratitude and be in awe of the beauty before me. It wouldn’t be a stretch to say this weekly ritual has transformed my life. Or at least the way I see it. Because it turns out when you slow down every week to revel in the beauty of the food you are going to eat, you begin to start noticing other tiny moments of beauty and gratitude throughout the week.
